Optimized Early Intervention for Emerging Psychiatric Disorders in Young Adults (IPOPE)

Centre Hospitalier Guillaume Régnier
Rennes

The scientific literature establishes that the prognosis for mental health disorders depends largely on how early intervention occurs and on the quality of engagement with care during the first years of the disorder’s progression — a decisive period both for preventing the disorder from becoming chronic and for supporting recovery.

Led by the psychiatry department of CHGR in Rennes, the IPOPE program provides three years of support for young adults aged 18 to 25 who have experienced a first psychotic episode (FEP). The support offered is delivered as close as possible to where they live or study and is based on a case management approach, co-built with them.

The program includes a comprehensive assessment (clinical, pharmacological, functional, and neuropsychological) carried out by a dedicated multidisciplinary team, along with close collaboration with families and local partners to support recovery, continued education or employment, and social inclusion.

After an initial pilot phase across two CHGR sectors, the project aims to extend this offering to all of Rennes’s healthcare sectors. The expected benefit builds on results that are already compelling: 70 young people supported in 2025, and a wait time of under 5 days between referral and first appointment — supporting early identification, easier access to care, and lasting recovery.
