Amid rising rates of mental health and neurodevelopmental disorders among children and adolescents, treatment capacity remains insufficient and care settings inadequate. Currently housed in sub-standard facilities, the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department at La Pitié-Salpêtrière is one of France’s leading centers for care in this field.
Supported by the Erié Foundation, the IDEAL project will relocate the department to a purpose-built facility within the Armand-Trousseau Hospital (12th arrondissement of Paris). This move will bring the department into a comprehensive pediatric environment alongside general pediatrics, neuropediatrics, emergency care, and clinical genetics, strengthening medical and academic collaboration and enabling more coordinated, family-centered care.
Designed entirely around the young patient’s life, the new institute will feature specialized clinics, a day hospital, inpatient facilities, adapted educational programs, family spaces, and a research laboratory. It will also house a clinic focused on fostering patient independence, particularly regarding new technologies and neurodevelopmental disorders.
Set to open in 2027, the institute will serve 1,500 patients annually, representing approximately 30,000 procedures per year and offer 51 inpatient beds and three day-hospital units.
