Optimized Early Intervention for Emerging Mental Health Disorders in Young Adults (IPOPE)

Guillaume Régnier Hospital Center – CHGR
Rennes

Scientific literature shows that the prognosis for mental health disorders depends largely on the timeliness of intervention and the quality of care during the early years of the illness. This period is critical for preventing chronic illness and supporting recovery.

Led by the psychiatry department at the CHGR in Rennes, the IPOPE program aims to provide care to young adults aged 18 to 25 who have experienced their first psychotic episode (FEP) over a three-year period. Support is offered as close as possible to where they live or study and is based on a case management approach developed collaboratively with them.

The program includes a comprehensive assessment (clinical, pharmacological, functional, and neuropsychological) conducted by a dedicated multidisciplinary team. It also involves close collaboration with families and local partners to promote recovery, continued participation in education or employment, and social inclusion.

The expected benefits are already borne out by compelling early results: 70 young people received care in 2025, with less than five days between the initial request and the first appointment. This rapid response facilitates early identification, streamlined access to care, and sustainable recovery.

Following an initial pilot phase in two sectors of the CHGR, the project supported by the Erié Foundation aims to expand this service to all healthcare sectors in Rennes.
